This Level 3 City & Guilds qualification is designed to enable learners to understand the principles, practices and legislation for Periodic Inspection and Testing of existing electrical installations. It covers statutory and non-statutory regulations and requirements, and the knowledge a learner needs to inspect, test and report on existing electrical installations.
The course prepares candidates to carry out a periodic inspection and test on existing electrical installation work, as well as the completion of an electrical installation condition report. It explains and demonstrates the difference between the tests required for new and existing electrical systems and the actions to be taken when faults and non-compliances are present.
How you'll learn and be assessed
The course is delivered over three days in the classroom by an experienced tutor, and includes practical applications of inspection and testing.
The assessments are carried out on day four.
There is a 90 minute, 40 question online multiple choice exam which is open book and invigilated. There is also a practical assessment, and short answer written exam.
Progression
This course allows candidates to progress within employment, and is a suitable qualification for a QS recognised by the trade bodies. Candidates can also progress to the City & Guilds Level 4 Award in the Design and Verification of Electrical Installation (2396).
Entry requirements
Entrants must have a Level 3 electrical qualification, and a IET BS7671:2018+A2:2022 qualification. They should also suitable experience of inspection and testing within the industry prior to taking this course.
Please bring along current copies of IET Guidance Note 3 – Inspection and testing; IET On-Site Guide to BS7671; IET BS7671:2018+A2:2022, Requirements for Electrical Installations, IET Wiring Regulations 18th Edition.
A calculator, notepad, and pens would also be useful.
