This course is designed to enable learners to understand the principles, practices, and legislation for initial verification and periodic inspection of electrical installations with statutory and nonstatutory regulations and requirements. Its content is the knowledge needed by a learner to underpin the application of skills for the inspection, testing, commissioning, and certification of electrical installations.
This course prepares candidates for the Initial Verification and Certification of new electrical installation work, as well as the completion of an Electrical Installation Certificate. It also covers the inspection, testing, and reporting of existing electrical installations, as well as the completion of an Electrical Installation Condition Report.

How you'll learn and be assessed
This course is delivered over four days in the classroom by an experienced tutor, and it includes practical application of inspection and testing requirements.
The assessments are carried out on day five. There is a two-hour 60-question online multiple choice exam, which is open-book and invigilated.
There is also a practical assessment in three parts:
- Inspect, test and complete the documentation for an Initial Verification and a Condition Report
- Complete a short answer question paper
- Identify and report on inspection items

This course allows candidates to progress into employment or to the City & Guilds Level 4 Award in the Design and Verification of Electrical Installations (2396)
Entry requirements
Entrants must have a Level 3 electrical qualification and suitable electrical industry experience before taking this course.
You will require: Current copies of IET Guidance Note 3 – Inspection and Testing, IET On-Site Guide to BS7671, IET BS7671:2018+A2:2022, Requirements for Electrical Installations, IET Wiring Regulations 18th Edition. Also a calculator, notepad, and pens.
