Myers Amoo-Gottfried, aged 18-years-old, from Ascot, is currently studying A Levels in History, Politics and Psychology at the Church Road campus. Alongside his studies, Myers has been training and playing for the college’s basketball team.

Having previously been unsuccessful last year, Myers was surprised and excited to hear that he had been picked for the Under 18 squad.

His first tournament, the Four Nations tournaments, will take place in Cardiff on Monday 10 April, where the team will compete against Ireland, Northern Ireland and Scotland.

Myers will play for the England Under 18s Basketball team until August. He will also go to Lisbon in Portugal to take part in a tournament.

Extremely excited!

Myers said: “My original reaction was I was extremely excited because this would have been my final chance for making because I didn’t make it last year.

“That motivated me to get better and once I got the result that I made it this year, it was very overwhelming and exciting.

“I really like the kit as I really like the colour red. I was given a big box of kit including a kit for training, a home kit and an away kit.

“I’ve also met some of my teammates, who all seem friendly. I’d previously met my coach after introducing myself to him after a previous game.”

Awarded MVP in College Basketball League

Myers has also been awarded as the Most Valuable Player in the College Basketball League 2022-23 Tier 2 – Group C team.

“There was only two of us. I thought it was going to be the other guy as he had higher efficiency scores, but I think because we won the league, I got the edge. That’s why I won the award,” Myers added.

“I missed out last year, which gave me more motivation to improve, which helped me to win it this year!”

Very proud Dad and Coach

His Dad and Coach, Martin Amoo-Gottfried, Lead Coach – Bracknell Cobras Basketball Team at Activate Learning, said: “I am very proud of Myers for his well-deserved call up for the U18 England National Team!

“Myers has had an amazing season in all competitions and has fully earned the selection. It is a credit to the hard work, focus and dedication he has put into getting better.

“It is a great inspiration to other players of what is possible, if you have the right work ethic!”
