Organisations use software to ensure that their operations become ever more effective and robustly reduce the incidence of downtime by building quality tested software solutions to give a better service.

Software developers are the creative minds behind computer programs. Some develop the applications that allow people to do specific tasks on a computer or another device. Others develop the underlying systems that run the devices or that control networks.

Who is it for?

  • Web Developer
  • Application Developer
  • Mobile App Developer
  • Games Developer
  • Software Developer

The broad purpose of the occupation is to understand a client’s requirements as provided in design specification and then build and test high-quality code solutions to deliver the best outcome.

An apprentice in this occupation will therefore be responsible for developing software solutions across the full software development life cycle from research and development, through continuous improvement, to product/service retirement.

Typically our Level 4 Software Developer Apprenticeship takes 24 months to complete.

Apprentices without level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the End-Point Assessment.

For those with an education, health and care plan or a legacy statement, the apprenticeship’s English and maths minimum requirement is Entry Level 3.

A British Sign Language (BSL) qualification is an alternative to the English qualification for those whose primary language is BSL.
