This Technical Qualification is for students interested in a career in the legal sector or a related field. The core content and experience gained through an industry placement will ensure that learners completing this qualification are well-prepared for their next steps.
This qualification forms the substantive part of the T Level in Legal Services, which includes other elements that must be successfully completed for students to be awarded the T-level from the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education. In addition to the Technical Qualification, the T Level in Legal Services will include an industry placement that is relevant to legal services.
What you'll learn
You will spend 80% of your time in college learning about your chosen subject and 20% of your time working in an industry placement – which is at least 315 hours (45 days) – where you will put what you have learnt into practice.
Core Content
Students will develop an understanding of a broad range of issues relevant to the sector, including:
- the business environment
- careers within the legal profession
- regulation
- professionalism and ethics
- security and risk
- equality, diversity and inclusion requirements
- third-party professional services
- the fundamentals of law
- the fundamentals of financial accounting
- an awareness of digital and emerging technology, digital transformation and digital tools
- data-driven innovation, analytics and design thinking
- research skills
- project and change management approaches in legal contexts
Options to specialise
In addition to the core content, each student will also complete at least one module of occupation-specific content.
The Legal Services T Level occupational specialism:
- Legal Services Assistant – Crime, Criminal Justice and Social Welfare.
How you'll learn and be assessed

There are several formal assessments during the two years: external exams, controlled assessments, practical summary assignments and an employer-led set project.
Together, the assessments generate an overall grade of pass, merit, distinction or distinction*.
At the end of your T level, you receive a nationally recognised certificate with a clear breakdown of your achievements. The T level can be worth up to 168 UCAS points.
Progression
This qualification ensures that students have the knowledge and skills needed to progress into highly skilled employment, an apprenticeship, or higher-level study, including university.
Entry requirements
You will need 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English language and maths.
