Launched in September 2020, Bracknell and Wokingham College are partnering with Bracknell Town Football Club, part of The SB Group Sport and Education Academy, to deliver practical and academic full-time programme for 16-19-year olds.
The course is delivered by highly-qualified, experienced and enthusiastic coaches and tutors, and will provide you with a defined pathway into the professional sports industry. Academy players have the opportunity to continue their formal education, train on the football pitch and learn the skills required for a career in sport. The majority of students also undertake a BTEC in Sport, Exercise, Fitness and Health Studies or Public Services alongside The SB Group Sports and Education Academy.
Employment progression routes after the programme include:
- sports coaching
- sports therapy
- teacher training
- sports and event management
- higher education (university level study)

What you'll learn
Alongside your commitments to the Bracknell Town FC Academy, part of The SB Group Sport and Education Academy, you will also study either;
- Sport Level 2 First Certificate
- Exercise, Health and Fitness Studies Level 2 Diploma
- Uniformed Public Services Level 2 First Certificate
As part of your application process we will discuss which academic route you wish to study. Please ensure you have taken the time to research the options available and understand what is expected within the programme you have chosen.
Combining education with the opportunity to gain coaching experience from an active professional coach within the academy, it gives student athletes a unique platform to progress into employment within the sport and leisure sector.
How you'll learn and be assessed
Student athletes will experience practical coaching and work experience delivered by UEFA qualified academy coaches.
There will be opportunities to gain an insight into a wide range of projects, for example, sports coaching within our local community partners.
Ongoing assessment will be through submissions, presentation and practical activities.
Bracknell Town FC Academy, part of The SB Group Sport and Education Academy, truly offers students an opportunity to combine a solid education with an elite football programme.
You will need to meet the entry requirements of the academic programme you wish to study alongside, this is usually four GCSEs at grade 3 (D) or above, including English and maths, and/or a completed Level 1 award.
We can offer on-site accommodation or local home-stays if you are not local to Bracknell. Students may also be eligible for the 16–19 bursary to help towards travel costs.
All students will have their literacy and numeracy needs supported within the programme.
