COVID-19 update – changes to wearing face coverings on campus

14 May, 2021

Following on from the Government’s announcement earlier this week regarding the easing of COVID-19 restrictions in schools and colleges, we wanted to get in touch and explain what this will mean for anyone studying with Activate Learning.

From Monday 17 May, the Government has stated that face coverings are no longer required to be worn in classrooms. However, they are advising that staff and students continue to wear them in areas where social distancing is harder to manage or where mixing is unavoidable.

Due to this, we have taken the decision to continue asking everyone coming into college to wear face coverings when inside buildings on campus, but staff and students will no longer be expected to wear them in classrooms.

Recharge outlets to open back up for eat-in services

We will also start opening up the Recharge cafes and refectories so that people are able to sit inside and enjoy their food and drinks.

In order to make this as safe as possible, we will be reducing the number of tables to minimise the number of people inside, but we hope that you will now be able to take advantage of this change.

Like with cafés and restaurants elsewhere, everyone will be expected to wear their face coverings while walking around the refectories and ordering food, but you will now be able to sit and remove your face coverings while you enjoy your refreshments.

However, we would ask that people stay within their class bubbles when sitting in the refectories to help minimise people mixing from different bubbles on campus. Tables will also be restricted to six people per table, in line with Government recommendations. This is all to help reduce any impact should we have a case of Covid in college.

Testing is still important

As you will be aware, testing is something that we’ve been encouraging everyone to do since we’ve been back in college, and this will continue as restrictions begin to ease.

Regular testing has helped us to minimise the impact of COVID-19 on your college experience and we would ask everyone to continue doing their home tests and logging the results with us and via the NHS app.

This, along with continued regular hand washing, social distancing and our enhanced cleaning measures, all helps to reduce any potential

Thank you for your continued support in helping us to keep your college safe.

Take care,
